Hanoi is a city much like Delhi but without the locals pestering you to give unwanted assistance. It’s fast paced and everywhere is busy with scooters riding in all directions. For our first full day in the city we were met by two local girl guides, I clarify here they were guides who happened to me female in case you were thinking we had enrolled for the Jimmy Saville tour!!!

So our guides Ling and Flow walked us around the city and gave us a history of the place like viewing an old Vietnamese house and the. Temples and French prison that housed US Airman shot down during the war. Flow also taught us how to cross the road. Basically you look left and right, see a shed load of motor bikes travelling in all directions, you say “sod it” and just walk in a straight line without stopping. It’s optional as to if you keep your eyes open but somehow every bugger ride and drive around you and you reach the other side!! Life expectancy of a pedestrian is 45 minutes so I suppose we are on borrowed time!!!

Thanks for the road crossing tip Alan and Rach. I think I might feel a bit like a chicken crossing the road! What’s the Chinese virus situation there? Are people wearing masks? Can’t get them here.
