Ha Long Bay

We set off early for our 3 day 2 night boat trip in Ha Long Bay. The place is just amazing, a must for any traveller in this region. The boat and staff were fantastic, they dealt with all our needs and the food was first class. The first night coincided with the Vietnamese New Year and the staff asked the passengers, all 12 of us if we wanted to celebrate with them. So about an hour after being served our meals the staff removed all the chairs and tables, put rugs on the floor and cooked and drank loads together with us.

Happy New Year everyone.

Earlier in the day we had kayaked around some of the rock formations and visited the fishermen’s village. You get a real sense of tranquility here and how primitive their lives are.

On the Second day the weather took a turn for the worst and it’s fair to say the kayaking was not for everyone. Rach and I on the other hand were not put off and had an hour working our way round the rocks with Avinsh from Canada and a crew member from the boat who was forced to take one for the team and be our guide. 🙂

And about 90 minutes later

With the weather being poor Rachael and I entered an international game of Scrabble competing against 2 Canadian teams, Avinash’s family, and South Africa. I regret to inform you of finishing last!
